Time is against all of us. In the mornings, especially, the time we have allotted to get ready for work seems to fly by. We wake up, make a start with our routine and before we know it, we’re 10 minutes late and have to leave without breakfast and wet hair. But with a bit of organisation and preparation, you can leave the house feeling great and starting your day the right way. Here are our top tips to ensure you feel your best every day, and hopefully, leave the house on time!
1. Get yourself a ‘Beauty Survival Kit’
Keep a make-up bag with your beauty essentials pre-packed. This is a lifesaver both for the days when you oversleep and when you’re up at the crack of dawn, squeezing in a workout before work. You’ll never get caught short again.
Here’s what’s packed in our survival kit:
- a travel size perfume or body spray
- small brush/comb
- your favourite lippy or balm
- feminine products
- a snack
- anything else you may need throughout your day
This kit keeps you covered throughout the day. From the chaotic morning rush and suddenly remembering that you have forgotten a vital element of your morning routine (we always forget perfume…) to the missing hairbrush after the gym showers, you’ll always have your beauty bag. Pack it with your usual work stuff so it’s ready to grab and go, even in the busiest of mornings.
2. Achieve the perfect hair day in under a minute
Sure, an extra 20 minutes dozing in your warm bed sounds heavenly, but what do you do when you also want your hair to look effortlessly luscious? To gain the best of both worlds, curl your hair the night before and tie it up in a bun with some hairspray. For an even quicker trick, braid it when damp. In the morning, get those extra minutes in bed by simply letting the bun loose. Give it a swish and your hair is ready to go. Hello effortless waves!
Bonus tip: For extra protection, invest in silk pillows and/or silk scrunchies. Silk products are believed to be great for protecting your hair and keeping it in shape.
3. Keep those makeup brushes glistening
Try to include cleaning your brushes and sponges into your weekly routine – think of this as a Sunday job when preparing for the new week. This is an important element in making your beauty routine more efficient, so you won’t have to worry about cleaning them last minute or having to use dirty brushes (which isn’t great for make-up, and it won’t do any favours for your skin!).
Our favourite Skin Care Queen, Caroline Hirons, shares her secrets for achieving perfect skin, including the importance of not cleaning your face with a wipe and instead using a cleansing balm or oil, and using an SPF after your moisturiser.
Brush cleaning on a budget: You can buy brush cleaners, but for a cheap and easy alternative, mix washing up liquid and baby oil in a bowl. Simply add this to the brushes, lathering fully, and rinse until clean under a tap. The baby oil is a vital element to the solution as it ensures that your brushes stay soft. Lastly, make sure you let the brushes dry upside down so the water escapes from the bristles!
4. Get organised!
Dresser organisation is vital for your products. Having your jewellery, hair accessories, skincare and perfumes in their designated places will ensure they are easy to find and ready to grab when really in a rush.
Tips to spruce up your beauty corner:
- Designated baskets/draws for each beauty item.
- Cotton bud/cotton pads organiser.
- Vanity mirror with storage.
- Hanging jewellery stand (easy to pick out the best suited whilst not having to deal with removing knots in your necklaces during the morning rush).
- Keep a handy pot of hair ties and bobby pins.

5. Plan, plan, plan ahead
Now this last tip may seem obvious, but try and plan as much as you can. This will make your routine go by with a breeze.
Plan your outfit the night before if you can, helping you to avoid a very stressful catwalk show of seven different outfits and your wardrobe sprawled across the floor.
Wash your hair the night before, sticking with our tips above for effortless waves. Prepare your lunches early in the week, and pack your gym bag the night before, ready to pick up on your way out the door. By following these tips for a simpler morning, you can enjoy those extra 30 minutes doing what you want, whether it’s having a slower breakfast, or enjoying some time reading your favourite book.
These small adjustments will relieve the stress from your morning so you can start the day, and week, how you mean for it to be – quick and leaving you energised and ready for the day ahead.
