Abigail James is the Global Treatment Ambassador for Liz Earle and is one of the UK’s top celebrity facialists. This basically means, when it comes to skincare – she knows what she’s talking about!
So, what does an expert facialist do in their everyday skincare routine? Let’s find out…
1. Stick to a routine, day and night
Abigail’s number one rule is to cleanse morning and night. She also says to put eye cream on before your serum, moisturiser, SPF and anything else you put on, this is so your eye cream can get to work on the finer skin of the eye area first.
2. Use the right technique when applying eye cream
To help fade under eye shadows, Abigail recommends you tap the cream in as you apply it to stimulate lymph drainage. To reduce puffiness, gently pull on your under eyes, this supports lymph drainage. To lift the upper eyelids Abigail says to tap the skin on your brow bone and push upwards as you apply the cream.
3. Use different exfoliation techniques
Abigail says regular exfoliation can be a game changer for your skin. This is because removing dead skin cells helps serum and moisturisers to get to work quicker. There are different ways you can exfoliate, for example a muslin cloth when you cleanse, a grainy exfoliator or formulas with enzymes. Abigail advises us to mix up these options as they all deal with different things.
4. Prioritise serums over a moisturiser
Serums contain a whole host of active ingredients you don’t get in moisturisers, so Abigail says if you want a big difference in your skin – you need to be looking to serums.
5. Incorporate facial massage every day
Facial massage can change the tone and clarity of your skin and is free – a no-brainer really. Abigail says it needn’t be a chore, simply massage the skin when cleansing.
6. Opt for plant oil-based lip balm
Mineral oil lip balms can dry out the lips in the long run says Abigail, instead she recommends we use balms containing plant oils.
7. Chase your coffee with water
As well as cutting back on tea/coffee and upping your water intake, Abigail recommends chasing any coffee you have with water. This helps to flush it through your system while rehydrating the skin.
