If you’ve never had the treatment before, a bikini wax can seem quite intimidating. After all, it’s hot wax near a sensitive area! As long as you go to a professional however, you’ll be in safe hands.
Over time you might feel comfortable enough to try at-home waxing kits, but in the first instance it is always best to see a professional. They will be able to get the shape you want and can answer any questions you may have about maintenance.
Take a look below for some common bikini waxing queries.
What prep do I need to do before getting a wax?
Absolutely nothing! Avoid shaving and any sort of hair trimming – your beauty therapist will take care of this all. Many will provide body wipes so you can freshen up before your wax too.
Is it going to hurt?
The more you wax, the less it hurts. The first wax however will smart a little. Once this is done, it’ll get easier. Waxing removes the hair at the root, so each removal weakens the hair growth cycle. Many beauty therapists opt for hot wax for the bikini area as it coats the hairs without sticking to the skin, making it kinder on the skin (and less painful!).
How long before my holiday should I get waxed?
If you’re not a regular waxer already, the hairs may grow back quicker. Try to get three waxes in before your holiday to ensure hairs are growing at the same stage and can be removed at the best time for your holiday.
How often should I get waxed?
Once you become a regular waxer, you should be able to go two to three weeks without waxing. For a smooth finish, hair should be at least 1/2 cm in length. If the hair is too long however, it will detach from the root and another hair will start growing, so results won’t last as long.
