Sequinned reindeer antlers, plenty of glitter and tacky Christmas jumpers are generally celebrated during the season. However, if you want a more demure look, Topshop Beauty Consultant, Hannah Murray has shared her tips on adding a touch of elegance to the trend:
If you’re not feeling the classic red lip, how can you give your pout a dash of festive sparkle?
The key to a statement lip is the balance of textures. You don’t necessarily need a bold colour to make a statement: a matte lip for example looks fabulous when against dewy, glowing skin, whatever the colour!
If you aren’t graced with a steady hand, dip a cotton bud in some moisturiser to wipe away any wobbles. You’ll be left with a perfect finish while intensifying the colour. Alternatively, choose a nude that compliments your skin tone (we love Rimmel’s new range, £6.99).
If you don’t want to glitter and sparkle this Christmas, what eye look should you choose?
The smokey eye isn’t limited to shimmer, nor is it only used in grey tones. Start with the Topshop Smoke Stick (Magic Garden, £6), colouring your whole eyelid.
Use a blending brush to soften the edges before lining the lower lashes with a bold, dark shade (don’t worry if it’s too thick, you can neaten it with a cotton bud!). Next, take a lighter shade of eyeshade (we love a gold) and press directly to the centre of your lid.
Finally, if you want more intensity, use a dark kohl liner along the lash line then a few layers of your favourite mascara. (Our current favourite is NYX lush lashes mascara in full figured, £6.50).
The morning after, how can I keep my skin looking fresh?
Cream highlighters are a great option when wanting to wake up the skin. It adds light and a dewy appearance to the skin, (even after those cocktails the night before…). Add the highlighter to the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose and the inner corners of the eyes.
