Whether you’re a regular at your local spa or you’re treating yourself and some girlfriends to a pampering treat, there are ways to ensure you’re really making the most of your treatments.
Take a look below for some tips – and enjoy!
Avoid shaving and exfoliating
It is tempting to shave the day before a trip to the spa – after all, you’ll more than likely be getting your bod out. If you’re planning on having a body treatment however, try to resist this urge. Shaving and exfoliating can make skin more sensitive or even irritated – this could be exacerbated by the treatment. Don’t be embarrassed by a little stubble, beauty therapists are used to this.
Eat light
Being uncomfortably full while having a treatment is never going to feel great. Try to eat light on the day of your spa trip – take advantage of the healthy foods on offer and opt for fruit as a snack before your treatment.
Speak up
Yes, it’s nice to enjoy some quiet time while having a treatment, but it is really important to talk to your therapist. Tell them if there is anything in particular you want worked on, or if you have any allergies to any products. If you are in any discomfort while having your treatment, again be sure to let them know so they can adjust their technique.
Don’t make plans after
Pamper sesh followed by a night out partying? Sounds great in theory, but in practise, you’re likely to ruin your post-spa Zen. Instead, book yourself in for an evening of relaxing to really reap the benefits of your treatment. Read a book, stick on your favourite film or even get an early night.
Skip the shower
Having a shower as soon as you get home from the spa can wash away all those amazing oils and elixirs from your treatment. Try to shower in the morning before your treatments and then wait until the next morning before you bathe again.
Drink plenty of water
A lot of body treatments are designed to help flush out toxins. Drinking lots of water will help to aid this process, so it’s important to drink both before and after treatments.
