As summer is drawing to a close, many of us are taking the chance to jet off for some last minute sunshine.
Whether you’ve developed a tan naturally (through safe sunbathing, of course) or you’ve gone for a faux glow – chances are you’ll want to keep your tan for as long as possible.
Thankfully there are ways you can enhance your tan and help it last longer. Take a look below for some tan-boosting tips:
Turn down the heat
As lovely as a steamy, hot shower is – the heat actually dehydrates the skin which can make peeling worse and shorten the life of your tan. Instead, try to take cooler showers/baths and use a gentle cleanser.
Use a scrub that nourishes
You may think using a body scrub would be a big no-no when trying to maintain a tan, but actually getting rid of dead skin cells will help to avoid patchiness. The trick is to use a scrub that contains nourishing ingredients like oil. This will add a hit of hydration while removing flaky skin.
Step up your moisturiser game
Moisture is key when it comes to prolonging your tan, so ensure your body moisturiser is rich. Look for ones with uplifting essential oils to banish any post-holiday blues.
Hydrate from the inside
As well as using plenty of body moisturiser, it’s important to hydrate from the inside too. This means drinking lots of water to help skin cells stay plumped up (including those holding your tan on the skin’s surface).
Top up with a gradual tanner
Express tans can dry out your skin, so your best bet to top up your colour is a gradual tanner. These add colour without stripping moisture, ensuring your tan looks great and lasts longer.
Try a body oil
As well as upping your skin’s moisture, a body oil will give your skin a beautiful sheen. This will enhance the look of your tan and give you a gorgeous, healthy glow.
