Mascara is a staple in any girl’s make-up collection – helping to define and elongate lashes, it’s the perfect finishing touch. Black and brown are usually the colours of choice when it comes to mascara, but now brightly coloured mascaras are making a comeback.
Blue, purple, green and even yellow mascaras have become a fun way to brighten up your spring/summer make-up looks. Coloured lashes is a trend that can go wrong however, so we’ve put together some tips to ensure you stay on the right side of kooky…
Choose a colour that brings out your eyes
When picking a mascara colour, think about your eye colour and what would complement this. Purples suit brown and green eyes, greens look great with hazel eyes and blues and yellows look fab against blue eyes.
Don’t match your mascara to your eyeshadow
Bright mascara against bright eyeshadow can look a bit too much. Try to keep any eyeshadow you use neutral and opt for complementary colours.
Keep eyeliner simple
To really allow your coloured eyelashes to pop, avoid eyeliner all together. If you can’t go without it, keep it very simple and just use a ‘tightline’ (where you line your upper waterline) to add subtle definition.
Try it on the bottom lashes only
If you’re wary of your coloured mascara looking too over the top, you might want to try it on the bottom lashes only. Use your usual black or brown mascara on top – this is a subtle way to introduce a flash of colour.
Colour the tips only
Another way to try this trend in a more low-key way is to colour the tips. Use your usual black or brown mascara and then add a hint of colour on the tips.
