Now we’re in the midst of summer, it’s officially time for us girls to show off our legs in skirts and shorts. If the constant hair removal is taking its toll on your skin, leaving it dry, stubbly and irritated – you should re-look at your routine.
Take a look below for six steps to smoother, happier legs:
1. Exfoliate
Your first step should be to remove dead skin and open up pores for a closer shave. To do this, use a gentle exfoliator and slough off dead skin before you shave.
2. Get a closer shave
A moisturising shaving cream will keep legs happy, why not make your own using coconut oil? Invest in a new, sharp razor to minimise irritation.
3. Treat ingrown hairs
Use a sugar/oil scrub with tea tree oil to help treat any ingrowing hairs. Combine one cup of raw sugar with half a cup of coconut oil and 10 drops of tea tree oil and apply to the area after shaving.
4. Switch to body oil
In the summer it’s nice to switch from cream moisturisers to oils. They tend to feel lighter and give the legs a lovely subtle sheen.
5. Don’t forget your feet
In the summer our feet go through a lot, with bare feet and flip-flops causing thickening of the skin. To keep feet soft and healthy, treat them to weekly soaks and scrubs.
6. Treat varicose veins
To help shrink blood vessels and temporarily reduce swelling, apply some witch hazel to a cloth and lay over the affected areas. Be sure to have your legs raised when doing this to decrease blood flow to the area.
