Holiday season is upon us and for many, that means jetting off to sunnier climes for some much-needed R and R. Flying however, is notoriously tough on your skin, so it pays to be prepared.
Take a look at the following in-flight beauty tips from those in the know – flight attendants!
Plane air is very dry. This is because the fresh air being pumped into the cabin comes from high altitudes, and this air has very little moisture. This makes skin, lips and eyes feel dry and dehydrated.
Drinking plenty of water is therefore a must. Flight attendant Felicia Rohan* says she drinks at least one litre of water for every six hours she’s up in the air.
Downsize your beauty faves
Travelling light is key, so it helps if you can downsize your favourite beauty products. Most brands offer travel-size versions, but if not, simply invest in some travel bottle sets.
Carry on a water mist
An easy way to keep your skin hydrated throughout the flight is to spritz it with a water mist. Flight attendant Jessica Martin opts for rose water for a soothing hit of hydration. Just be sure to pack a small spray so you don’t go over your 100ml limit.
Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise
Take some facial moisturiser, a lip balm and eye cream on the flight and apply regularly to combat the dry air. If you have a hydrating oil or serum, pop some on before you settle in front of the in-flight entertainment.
Don’t forget the SPF
If you have a window seat, it’s important to remember that you are closer to the sun’s harmful rays. To protect yourself, use a moisturiser with SPF on vulnerable areas.
