Summer is just around the corner, and you know what that means – bikini season! For many of us, this also means bikini wax season.
There are two different kinds of waxing you can get – strip wax or hot wax. The strip waxing method uses cloth strips to remove the wax, while hot wax stiffens on the skin and can be peeled off.
The heat in the hot wax technique opens up the pores of the skin. This makes it better for removing coarse hairs (like those on your bikini line), so it’s no surprise it’s become the go-to method for many waxing salons.
If you’re planning to book a wax, take a look at these tips first for best results:
Avoid numbing creams
These generally don’t work and can get messy. If you are really worried about the pain, take a painkiller before your wax. The pain should be bearable though and is over within minutes.
Don’t wax five days before or after your period
Your skin will be more sensitive on these days, so try to avoid planning your wax at this time.
Exfoliate the morning before
To help remove dead skin and to avoid ingrown hairs, use an exfoliating scrub the morning before your wax.
Work out before your wax
If you head to the gym straight after your wax, the sweat may cause irritation. Plan to work out before your wax instead.
Plan your wax three days before your holiday
After you get waxed, you may encounter some redness. If you’re worried about this showing when you wear your bikini, plan your wax for a few days before. This will give the skin a chance to settle down.
If the pain is too much or if you want more/less hair removed, remember to speak up. Even the best beautician in the world won’t be able to read your mind, so tell them what you want.
