Your favourite make-up tricks could in fact be your biggest beauty blunders! Discover how to avoid looking like you need to catch up on ZZZs.
Make-up is designed to enhance our natural features – brighten eyes, boost lips and give skin an even glow. It is our go-to essential when we’re running low on sleep, have a terrible complexion or puffy eyes, but unfortunately there are times when the wrong techniques can leave us looking even worse!
Here are the top five beauty mistakes to steer clear of in order to leave the house looking fresh as a daisy, rather than someone in need of more ZZZs:
Mistake 1: Using plain, monotone colour foundations and shades. This is the ultimate beauty disaster for making your complexion look flat and lifeless.
Rectify: Define your features – eyes, brows, cheekbones and lips – to add colour and shape to your face. Choose warm, fresh shades that complement your skin tone and don’t overdo it on the bronzer!
Mistake 2: Over powdering your skin. This can make your skin look dry, older and tired.
Rectify: Choose translucent setting powders that are light and colourless to take away shine. Make sure you blend well and avoid eye creases.
Mistake 3: Using the wrong under-eye concealer. This will enhance your eye bags rather than cover them!
Rectify: When buying concealer, test the colour on the palest part of your inner wrist. On application, make sure you’re in a well-lit room to ensure you blend correctly and that the colour looks natural.
Mistake 4: Skipping moisturiser. Applying make-up to dry skin will make your complexion look tired and flaky.
Rectify: Choose a moisturiser that suits your skin type to ensure the best surface for make-up application.
Buy: Garnier’s Moisture Match collection.
Mistake 5: Heavy, dark eyeliner. Yes, Kate Middleton can carry it off, but for many complexions – particularly pale skin tones – thick, black eyeliner will add years and signs of tiredness.
Rectify: Line your eyes with brown, bronze or gold eyeliners to add warmth and softness. Applying a slick of white eyeliner in the lower rim of your eyes will also help them to look brighter.
Buy: Clarins Crayon Kohl.
