For those of you who love to play around with different make-up looks, Halloween is really an opportunity to get creative and have fun! See below for our top tips on how to create and apply your own Halloween look:
- Find inspiration
Before you start shelling out all your pennies on liquid latex, we would advise you to scour the Internet for some inspiration. Sites like Pinterest and Instagram are fantastic for finding ideas which you can then alter to suit your own personal style and vision. Once you’ve found some ideas you like, try sketching out an image of your face and what you want to go where. This doesn’t need to be a masterpiece, it will just help to guide you when it comes to the final application.
- Practice makes perfect
Avoid any disasters or unforeseen issues by practising your look a couple of times.
Before you go out and purchase lots of new products, shop your stash and see if you have anything you can recycle. Eyelash glue for example, is perfect for creating scars and slashes when topped with ripped toilet roll for texture. Simply pop some glue onto your skin before arranging the paper over the top. Once dry, cover well with face-paint or your base of choice for a realistic textured look. In addition, if your look requires whiting out your brows in order to draw on a totally different shape, running a little Pritt Stick over them will fix the hairs down for a smooth base.

Still not convinced? – leave it to the professionals
If you really don’t feel confident with make-up, don’t forget there is always the option to visit your favourite counter to have your desired look applied professionally. Whether it’s just lashes and lipstick to enhance your outfit or a full-on Bride of Frankenstein look, chat to the resident artists to see if they are offering Halloween sessions. Last year, selected MAC, Benefit and Illamasqua counters were all offering to spook up your make-up, and will provide that professional and artful edge that can be difficult to achieve on your own. If you don’t want anything too off the wall, you could opt for a super smokey eye with blood red lips instead.
