Nail art has dominated the beauty scene over the last couple of years with more and more daring designs coming from the professionals. Nail varnish companies are picking up on this trend and continue to produce nail varnishes with different effects, from the unusual concrete textures to glow in the dark neon shades.
If you’re keen to give nail art a go, but don’t know your half-moon manicure from your ombre effect – take a look at these easy designs to get you started:
1. Polka dots
An easy design for those dotty about dots! (Sorry, couldn’t resist). Start by applying a base coat colour of your choice and allow to dry completely. Next use a small brush or toothpick to lightly tap your second colour on your nail to create dots. When the dots are dry, finish with a top coat.
2. Leopard print
This is another design that requires two different colours, preferably one light and one dark. Start off by applying the lighter colour in ‘splotches’ on your nails (like leopard spots). When they are dry, carefully use the dark colour to fill in the gaps, usually done by drawing ‘C’ or ‘U’ around the outside of the blotches.
3. Marble effect
A really eye catching design that is easy to create and uses three colours. Begin by applying your base coat colour and allow to dry, then using a toothpick apply your second colour in a dot and swirl around the nail. Before this dries, do the same with your third colour to create a cool marble effect. Allow to dry and apply a top coat to seal.
