If you’re busy changing your diet, replenishing your wardrobe and cleaning the clutter from your life, why not give your make-up bag a little revamp too?
Empty out those clumpy mascaras, blunt kohls and congealed lip glosses immediately – it’s time to be ruthless.
Brace yourself – 2013 is going to be bold. The natural beauty look was so last year. Throw out those pale lipsticks and nude eye-shadows and prepare yourself for scarlet lips, bold brows, glowing skin and marine-themed eyes.
For a beauty revamp that’s on trend, check out these tips we’ve picked up from Spring 2013 Fashion Week…
The catwalks were ablaze with models sporting crimson pouts. While Jean Paul Gaultier went for dark, sultry cherry-red, Prada went all out with matte crimson lined with pencil to accentuate the shape and size of the models’ lips.
The red ‘power lip’ is certainly not a subtle look and it takes some guts to flaunt. If you’ve got an alabaster complexion, opt for warmer reds such as No7 Stay Perfect in ‘9 Sultry’ (£9). For darker skinned women, try reds with a touch of brown such as Smashbox Be Legendary in ‘Infrared Matte’ (£15.50).
To be on trend you’ll need to spend the next few months cultivating thick, bushy eyebrows. Plus-sized beauty Crystal Ren had thick, dark brows teamed with extravagent ’60s style lashes when she modelled for Zac Posen at New York Fashion Week. To emulate this bold, Latino look, we suggest leaving the tweezers in the draw for a few weeks to give your brows time to grow. If you spent your formative years plucking away then you may have lost the natural shape of your brow. If they look sparse and straggly, try applying powder over a waxy pencil to make it stick. Blondes should go for a pale taupe shade, brunettes should look for ashy browns and very dark-haired women should chose dark chestnut tones.
For a great brow tool kit, try Brown Box from Urban Decay (£17). This includes everything you need for a bold brow in 2013, from two shades of powder, to cute mini tweezers for those stray hairs.
In all its shades, from navy to aquamarine, blue eyeliner is the make-up statement of 2013. Models from Moschino and Michael Kors rocked the runway with bright turquoise liner on the upper lids, while Mary Katrantzou opted for deep purple-blue eye-shadow applied with a feline flick. We like Clarins Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil in Turquoise (12.80) for its precision pencil with a sponge tip for blending.
