Chanel’s AW09 collection now seems but a dream in which a hoard of women were literally walking over dead bodies to pick up a bottle of the then ‘it’ polish Jade (mint green).
The nail polish was famously auctioned on eBay where it reigned queen of the nail polish’s fetching ludicrous amounts even for partially used bottles! After the dust had settled Chanel released another ‘it’ shade, Particuliere, a sort of muddy mushroom taupe like brown which received a similar frenzied response.
So now we are at AW10 and the new collection is upon us as is the much expected and anticipated new ‘it’ polish. This time around it is Paradoxal, a moody taupe with undercurrents of violet shimmer. If you are wondering who would be insane enough to buy into the ‘trend’ at a cost of £16.50 a bottle then… Hello (shamefully bows head and blushes). In the interest of all things beauty, Beauty Resource took it upon ourselves to buy a bottle and test it out.
As usual you immediately get a feeling of luxury and quality with Chanel, something that unfortunately our beloved drug store brands do not always deliver on. Looking at the bottle the violet shimmer is very intense though upon application this is something which did not translate onto the nails.
The nail polish itself goes on beautifully, the formulation is not too thin or thick and dries relatively quickly. We applied a base coat first to stop the colour from staining the nails and then two coats to get a good even coverage. Upon drying the violet shimmer didn’t really shine through unless our nails were in direct sunlight or under artificial light, nether of which occur very frequently in an everyday office environment.
Despite this the colour is still gorgeous and is a staple which will definitely suit the Autumn/Winter wardrobe. Even though it’s already selling on eBay for £30 we think we’ll hold onto ours for now!
