Here are a few of our favourites.

1.Less is more with make-up so don’t get too excited. Choose a feature you want to accentuate, perhaps lips or eyes but not both.

2.Even if your under eye bags are almost at your feet, don;t overdo the under eye concealer. No one has a shadow free face and remember that camera flashes make anything with a pinky base shine extra brightly in photos. If you do insist on going heavy with concealer then try to use a product which have a yellow base. Benefit do a great selection.

3.There is nothing worse than too much perfume. It is almost a rival to bad breath and BO. A subtle sultry scent is much more classy.

4. Brush, floss and mouthwash. Nothing perks you up like minty fresh breath.

5.Use red lipstick with caution because it will look stunning at the start of the night but will fade quickly and leave an unpleasant stain on the top and bottom of your lips which will mean you have to keep reapplying.

6. Applying eyeliner to the top lip will open up your eyes and make them look bigger. Applying it below the eye however, will make your eyes look smaller and squinty.

7. Invest in proper eyebrow shaping. A professional will be able to cleanly arch your eyebrow and threading and waxing will last longer than plucking. Try Blink for good threading.

8. For sexy party eyes buy a good pair of eyelash curlers, Ruby and Millie have a great pair £8.50.

9. Buy a new mascara that can withstand most of the elements. Two layers of a good waterproof mascara should get you through the night.

10. Every women knows that the cardinal rule of going out is that you must remove your make-up when you get in. No matter how intoxicated you are use all your might to stumble to the mirror and remove you make-up with a good facial cleansers. We recommend YSL Instant Pur Eye Make-up Remover £18 as it lifts of stubborn waterproof make-up and grim and leaves your face feeling fresh and clean.

I’m always on the look out for the ‘Tried and Tested’ beauty sections of magazines. They give a good comparison of products without you having to test them all yourselves and give you an insight into items you might not have seen before. This week I found some home waxing kits and I was immediately drawn to the page because I never know what one to use. The selection was Moom Classic Wax Kit (£14.99), Wax Away Warm Wax With Green Tea (£6.49), Veet Warm Wax Roll-On (£8.99) and Nad’s Natural Hair Removal Gel (£14.99).

It just goes to show that expensive products aren’t always the best, Nad’s Natural Hair Removal Gel received just 6 points out of a possible 10 and was joint most expensive with a usual retail price of £14.99. The pot says use the wax at room temperature but the testers said this wasn’t warm enough and they had to heat the wax a little in order for the first strips to stick. However, if you do fancy trying this home waxing kit you can currently get it for £11.95 at Beauty Expert.

In third place with 7/10 was Moom Classic Wax Kit, comments made in the experiment were that it worked great on leg hair and thinner hair areas but not so well on the bikini line where hair is often much thicker and courser. The wax does need heating in a microwave but apparently it is easy to clear up with warm water. Again, this product is priced at £14.99.

In this waxing test the cheaper options came out on top, Wax Away Warm Wax With Green Tea scored 8/10 and only costs £6.49 – bargain! The tester explained that the wax worked well on both legs and bikini line leaving skin smooth and hair free like she had just been to the salon.

In first place came Veet Warm Wax Roll-On. Not only is this product one of the cheaper options at just £8.99, it is also more convenient because you can simply roll it on like a deodorant. You do not need to be a master at heating or applying the wax, simply roll the stick over the area of hair you want to remove, use the wax strips provided and voila! The pack includes a ‘Perfect Temperature Indicator’ so you always know the best time to apply the wax plus 12 rinsable, re-usable wax strips.
