Tip Of The Week

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

FoundationFor a flawless complexion you’ll need to start with a good skincare regime. Using cleanser, toner and moisturiser every day will make a huge difference to the way your skin looks and will also affect how make-up looks on your face. Make sure you choose products suitable for your own skin type (e.g. dry, combination, oily etc.) and try out a facemask every so often for an extra boost.

When it comes to choosing a foundation, make sure you get both the colour and texture correct. The colour should be tested on your jaw line and you’ll need to base the texture on your skin type. You may want to use a foundation primer before applying the foundation to help your look last longer and also to help blend the make-up evenly on your face.

After applying your foundation you’ll need to use concealer to cover up any spots or dark bags that your foundation missed. Go for a concealer a shade lighter than your foundation and you’ll be left with a much fresher, youthful look. Use loose powder to set the look and finish it all of with touch of blusher for a sunkissed glow.

A flaky, patchy complexion will now be a thing of the past!

Lulu’s Time Bomb Skincare Range

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

A few years ago, I read an article that said as we get older some people get a little lost or stuck in a rut and want advice on how to put their outfits together. Their advice was to think of a celebrity that’s around your age and someone that you admire, then, copy their dress sense, hair style and make-up etc. – their whole look. Lulu was my inspiration. Though a little bit older than I, she looks totally amazing for her 56 years (she looks at least 20 years younger) and I have got some stylish ideas from her over the years!

The New Skin Care Range

Yesterday she was on the shopping channel QVC with her new skincare range: ‘Lulu’s Time Bomb’ so I switched on at 8pm to have a look. The products sold out within minutes of Alison Young (the presenter) describing them and to be honest, you just had to look at Lulu sitting there absolutely glowing and radiating beauty to want the products yourself. I couldn’t decide on what to have first but sadly, I couldn’t get anything.

Although Lulu admits to having Botox in the past, she now only uses the new range, which she says has taken 3 years to perfect. She obviously eats well and exercises regularly but then so do I and my skin doesn’t look like hers!! I just couldn’t get over how youthful and toned her skin looked. She certainly does have something to SHOUT about!!

The range consists of Cleansing Cream, Polishing Pads, Day Cream, Eye Cream, Night-cream and a trial survival Pack of consisting of 4 of the products ranging from £12.00 to £30.00.

I have been on the website this morning to place my order and can’t wait for it to arrive!

What is the Best Anti-Ageing Moisturiser?

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Estee Lauder DayWear PlusOn Tuesday’s episode of How to Look Good Naked, Dawn Porter and her team of 100 testers set out to find the best anti-aging moisturiser in terms of value for money and best results. The four products in the experiment were DDF Wrinkle Relax (£82.00), Estee Lauder DayWear Plus (£28.00), L’Oreal Revitalift (£13.00) and Simple Regen+ Anti-Wrinkle Firming Cream (£12.99). I love it when the cheaper products come out on top – it proves that you don’t have to spend a fortune to help your skin stay younger for longer.

Simple Anti-Wrinkle CreamThe most expensive product actually came last receiving only 45 points out of the possible 100, then in 3rd place came Simple Regen+ Anti-Wrinkle Firming Cream with 52 points, 2nd place went to L’Oreal Revitalift with 54 points and in first place came Estee Lauder DayWear Plus with 58/100 points. At 1/3rd the price of the most expensive product, Estee Lauder provides both value for money and the best results.

Under Eye Dark Circle Creams

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

Benifit EyeConThis week on Channel 4’s How to Look Good Naked, Dawn Porter and the girls tested Under Eye Dark Circle Creams. The products tested were Benefit Eye Con (£21.50), Boots Time Delay (£7.99), Hylexin Dark Circle Cream (£95.00) and
ROC Hydra+ Destressant Eyes (£11.95). The girls that reported their experiences said that the creams didn’t really do much for their dark circles but did moisturise their skin. Would you spend up to £95 on a product that’s not going to do its job? Unlikely.

Boots Time DelayThe most expensive product Hylexin Dark Circle Cream did score the highest amount of points (54) but none of the girls were raving about it, it is in my opinion a waste of money that could have been better spent on two new pairs of shoes! Benefit Eye Con came in 2nd place with 50 points out of the possible 100, Boots Time Delay came in at a close 3rd (49/100) and ROC Hydra+ Destressant Eyes last place with just 30 points.

ROC Hydra+ Destressant EyesObviously everybody’s skin is different so you never know what products may work for you. There is no way I would spend £95 on a product but I would consider using Benefit Eye Con as it did rank just 4 points behind and is over £70 cheaper. I have seen a few US websites that advertise Hylexin Dark Circle Cream for $95 which is much more reasonable.

See the Channel 4 Website for further information about the show or to get the chance appear on the program.

Olay Everyday Sunshine

Friday, June 1st, 2007

Olay Everyday SunshineI am a huge fan of the new show How to Look Good Naked on Channel 4, I think it’s a great feel-good program and I’m sure many women across the UK are hooked. If you haven’t seen the show, they basically pick a women who feels self conscious about her body and they dress her in clothes to suit her shape and make her feel fabulous. At the end of the show she has her own photo shoot and models underwear on a catwalk.

Every week they test out beauty products on a group of 100 women, this week they tried tanning products and for the first time in ages an expensive product actually won the experiment. Make Believe Tan Extender costing £25 scored the highest but only by 3 points.

Second in the rankings was Olay Everday Sunshine costing just £5.99 – an absolute bargain compared to the Make Believe product. To be honest I couldn’t tell the difference in appearance between one woman wearing the expensive tan and the other wearing the cheaper version.

I therefore conclude by saying, Olay Everyday Sunshine is the ideal tanning product of the summer!
