Whether you’re rocking a day-time red lip at work or a deep purple for a night out, chances are you’ll want the colour to last as long as possible.
There are plenty of long-lasting formulas out there designed to stay in place for hours on end, but even these need a little help to stay bold all day and night. Below we reveal the tried and tested tips for lipstick that simply won’t budge.
Longwearing lipsticks can be drying, so it’s important to keep lips hydrated and happy. Use a nourishing lip balm whenever you’re not rocking a bold colour and remember to apply before bed.
To ensure your bold colour looks its best, make sure you haven’t got any flaky patches or dead skin. Use a lip scrub – you can buy one or make your own (just mix sugar with Vaseline) and exfoliate your lips before applying the colour. This will give you a smooth base, helping the colour to stick to the lips.
Use a primer
There are lots of lip primers on the market designed to help your colour last longer. Invest in one of these and apply before your colour.
Use a lip liner in the same colour as your lipstick and apply to the whole lip. This will help keep your lipstick in place for much longer.
Go for liquid
There are several different formulas you can go for when it comes to long-lasting lip colour, but our favourite are liquid lipsticks. For longevity and bold colour, these are fantastic – we especially love the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet range.
Try a stain
If you want long-lasting colour but don’t want anything too bold, try a stain instead for a more subtle look. This will mean even when the product wears off, your lips will still be stained with a hint of colour.
Blot, blot, blot
When applying your colour, apply it in layers and blot with a tissue between layers. This helps to press the colour into your lips so it stays in place for longer.
Even if you follow all this advice, if you’re eating and drinking your colour may still fade. Be prepared for this and take your lipstick with you to reapply when necessary.
