Eyelash Transplants?

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Eyelash TransplantIf you spend every day applying false eyelashes and think your real lashes deserve a break from all the glue, you could opt for an eyelash transplant. Yes you heard correctly, this is actually available.

Hair is taken from the head, separated into individual follicles and attached permanently to the eyelid next to your real lashes. Each hair is implanted one at a time with a needle then curled carefully ensuring they grow in the same direction as your originals. Apparently the procedure is common with trauma patients and has been used for many years, but now people are paying $6000 to have fuller lashes just so they don’t have to wear as much mascara!

Sounds ridiculous if you ask me but then I’m not really surprised, the world gets crazier and crazier every day, I find it hard to keep up! Read the full story at CBS News.

Per-fekt Skin Perfection Gel

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Per-fekt Skin Perfection GelIf you’re searching for a product to help improve your skin tone, reduce redness, control oil or help smooth enlarged pores and fine lines this could be it. Apparently loved by Beyonce, Paris Hilton and Janet Jackson, Per-fekt Skin Perfection Gel is a smooth gel that glides on to leave you with a natural, smooth complexion.

The antioxidant enriched formulation can be used on its own or under your foundation and will not only help improve the look of your skin but help hold your make-up in place too. It’s also water and sweat resistant so if you like a good workout at the gym this will make other red-faced members utterly envious!

For £29.95 this seems too good to be true! Let us know if you’ve tried it!

St. Tropez Tanning Kits

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

St. Tropez SetI have tested tanning kits for many years now, from daily moisturisers such as Olay Everyday Sunshine to longer lasting brands such as Fake Bake. I have finally come to the conclusion that St. Tropez is by far the best product for my skin type. It smells good, spreads well and the kits come with an exfoliator, moisturiser and bronzer in one. The best thing about it in my opinion is that even though you’re supposed to put in on, leave overnight then wash off, you can also put it on just before you go out (not quite as heavily!) and it will give you a great tan for the evening. You just have to pray that it doesn’t rain so you don’t go streaky!

For me it is the best tanning product around and I’ll never bother with another tan again – unless it’s a salon tan obviously. You can buy the kit or individual products at Amazon.co.uk or visit the St. Tropez Website for more information.

Cook Yourself Thin

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Cook Yourself ThinI must admit I’m a sucker for Channel 4’s Diet and Beauty programs, first there was Gillian with ‘You Are What You Eat’, then ‘10 Years Younger’, then ‘How to Look Good Naked’, then Gillian again with ‘ Three Fat Brides One Thin Dress’ and now there’s ‘Cook Yourself Thin’ (Tuesdays at 8.30pm). I have just been over to the Cook Yourself Thin website and it’s brilliant; you can select your current dress size then select your goal dress size and they will tell you an estimated date of when you could reach it. You can then use their recipes and guidance to cook yourself thin!

If you actually want to become a member it costs £7.50 per month; there are a number of features you then have access to such as a food diary and recipes – it’s a bit like Weight Watchers. However, I don’t really see the need to subscribe because recipes are also available on the Channel 4 website with video demonstrations! This week they had the most amazing skinny lemon cake that I am planning on baking this evening.

Revlon Luxurious Colour Eyeliner Pencil

Monday, August 20th, 2007

Revlon have a great new range of eyeliners with a built-in smudger to change the look from bold to sultry. The pencil comes in six different shades; black velvet, sueded brown, burnished amber, antiqued gold, brushed pewter and blackened sapphire.

Revlon Luxurious Colour Eyeliner Pencil

My personal favourite is the burnished amber – it’s softer than the black and gives a sexy, smoky effect. The smudger also allows for imperfections in how the eyeliner is applied because any gaps or uneven lines can be blended easily. For just £6.99 this product is a must-have this summer.

SunSublim - Make The Most of The Sun

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

SunSublimWe all know that too much sunshine is bad for your skin, but what if there was a way to get a great tan without going in the sun for too long, well now there is! I have just discovered SunSublim, a new supplement that prepares your skin for tanning and makes the most out of the short time you do spend in the sun.

The pills are packed with antioxidants and nutrients that activate skin colouring and protect your skin from sun-induced ageing. Sun tan lotion is obviously still a must as the pills do not protect your skin from burning.

So if you’re sick of sunbeds and have tried every fake tan product under the sun SunSublim could be something worth testing. I’m going to take the supplement before I go away this year to see if they really do work.

Available at Boots for £14.99 or see the SunSublim Website for further information.

Home Waxing Kit Experiment

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

I’m always on the look out for the ‘Tried and Tested’ beauty sections of magazines. They give a good comparison of products without you having to test them all yourselves and give you an insight into items you might not have seen before. This week I found some home waxing kits and I was immediately drawn to the page because I never know what one to use. The selection was Moom Classic Wax Kit (£14.99), Wax Away Warm Wax With Green Tea (£6.49), Veet Warm Wax Roll-On (£8.99) and Nad’s Natural Hair Removal Gel (£14.99).

Nad’s Natural Hair Removal GelIt just goes to show that expensive products aren’t always the best, Nad’s Natural Hair Removal Gel received just 6 points out of a possible 10 and was joint most expensive with a usual retail price of £14.99. The pot says use the wax at room temperature but the testers said this wasn’t warm enough and they had to heat the wax a little in order for the first strips to stick. However, if you do fancy trying this home waxing kit you can currently get it for £11.95 at Beauty Expert.

Moom Classic Wax KitIn third place with 7/10 was Moom Classic Wax Kit, comments made in the experiment were that it worked great on leg hair and thinner hair areas but not so well on the bikini line where hair is often much thicker and courser. The wax does need heating in a microwave but apparently it is easy to clear up with warm water. Again, this product is priced at £14.99.

Wax AwayIn this waxing test the cheaper options came out on top, Wax Away Warm Wax With Green Tea scored 8/10 and only costs £6.49 – bargain! The tester explained that the wax worked well on both legs and bikini line leaving skin smooth and hair free like she had just been to the salon.

Veet Warm WaxIn first place came Veet Warm Wax Roll-On. Not only is this product one of the cheaper options at just £8.99, it is also more convenient because you can simply roll it on like a deodorant. You do not need to be a master at heating or applying the wax, simply roll the stick over the area of hair you want to remove, use the wax strips provided and voila! The pack includes a ‘Perfect Temperature Indicator’ so you always know the best time to apply the wax plus 12 rinsable, re-usable wax strips.

Tip Of The Week

FoundationFor a flawless complexion you’ll need to start with a good skincare regime. Using cleanser, toner and moisturiser every day will make a huge difference to the way your skin looks and will also affect how make-up looks on your face. Make sure you choose products suitable for your own skin type (e.g. dry, combination, oily etc.) and try out a facemask every so often for an extra boost.

When it comes to choosing a foundation, make sure you get both the colour and texture correct. The colour should be tested on your jaw line and you’ll need to base the texture on your skin type. You may want to use a foundation primer before applying the foundation to help your look last longer and also to help blend the make-up evenly on your face.

After applying your foundation you’ll need to use concealer to cover up any spots or dark bags that your foundation missed. Go for a concealer a shade lighter than your foundation and you’ll be left with a much fresher, youthful look. Use loose powder to set the look and finish it all of with touch of blusher for a sunkissed glow.

A flaky, patchy complexion will now be a thing of the past!
