Endermologie (Cellulite Treatment)
Find a beauty professional dealing with Endermologie (Cellulite Treatment) »
Endermologie was originally developed during the 1980s in France by Louis-Paul Guitay to treat burns and loosen scar tissue. However while using the procedure it became increasingly evident that it also improved the appearance of cellulite. Approximately 90% of women over the age of 20 develop cellulite (sometimes referred to as the ‘orange peel effect’), so unsurprisingly the popularity of the procedure for aesthetic purposes increased rapidly and continues to grow today. Endermologie is now used by beauticians, masseurs, physiotherapists, dermatologists and plastic surgeons.
What is endermologie?
Endermologie has become known as the process of reducing cellulite by mechanical means, using massages, rolling and manipulation of the tissues. Cellulite is caused by fat cells beneath our skin which trap toxins and retain water so the action of the massaging machine during endermologie breaks down the fat, water and toxins, allowing the lymphatic system to drain it all away.Endermologie is a non surgical procedure and is the first cellulite treatment to be approved by the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Not only does endermologie help improve the appearance of cellulite, but it can also improve circulation, relieve minor muscular aches, improve skin tone and skin radiance.
The procedure
Before treatment begins, patients will receive a consultation to discuss the condition of their cellulite and agree on a programme for treatment. A minimum of 6-10 treatments are usually recommended and are often the amount required to notice a real difference. The results from these 6-10 sessions will usually last a few months, and a 30 minute treatment every month or so will help to maintain the new shape. Some patients may decide to have more sessions initially if they feel their cellulite needs more than the minimum recommended. Each patient will be different and have their own needs so the amount of treatments and any further sessions will all be discussed in the consultation.
During the treatment, patients will wear a specialised body stocking and the therapist will use a hand-held massaging device on the affected area. Each treatment will last approximately 35-45 minutes and most patients choose to have about 1 to 2 sessions per week. A trained beauty professional should always conduct the procedure and the treatment should never hurt as they’ll be able to assess the level of massage your body is able to cope with.
What about diet and exercise?
Although a good diet and plenty of exercise won't reduce cellulite significantly, poor nutrition and lifestyle tend to worsen the appearence of cellulite. Therefore it is widely accepted that a balanced diet and regular exercise will complement endermologie and prevent cellulite getting worse.
This should be discussed during your consultation, and you should try to maintain a healthy lifestyle during and after your treatment to see the best results of endermologie.
The cost
As with any procedure, the cost will vary depending on the beauty professional you choose. However, you should expect to pay around £40 - £70 per treatment. Some salons will offer a discounted rate if you purchase the sessions in bulk so you should look into this before paying for your first session.--
